Behind the Broken Cross by Conrad ProphetBehind the Broken Cross — What Our Readers Say

Having read all of the author’s books, I find him to be tremendously talented. He has the capability to succeed as a comedy writer, fiction writer or non-fiction writer. Behind the Broken Cross was a book that engaged you on many levels. It provokes you to consider your walk with Christ and it provokes you to consider the very dark and violent images of deviant sexual behavior of people outside of Christ. People playing Church. The characters in the story are well developed. Either you love them or hate them. Will Rad eradicate the world of all evil? Will Bobby get his just reward? How did the esteemed Pastor Gregory not know what was going on under his nose?

Monica is my favorite; rough around the edges, but she has a very good heart. The message of God redemption is shown throughout. A very well written, and suspenseful book. I look forward to following the characters into the next chapter of their lives.

Behind the Broken Cross … powerful and very entertaining. Real life events with a colorful twist. The author’s words breathe life into the fictional characters in this book. I have been in church my whole life. The author exposes all the issues you think about, but are afraid to talk about. A major reality check … "Are you performing on the devil’s stage?" The author takes you on a journey inside the minds of the so called "Christians". If you have ever attended a church service of any kind, then you must read this book! There is something in it for everyone.

Behind the Broken Cross is a book for the mature reader. Having an open mind will help you enjoy the book immensely. If you are a member of a book discussion group, this book will be the center of great debate. There are many social issues that are addressed in this book. Mr. Prophet exposes corruption in many churches as he addresses these issues. The love of money, power and sex are the main topics that he exposes. Although the faint of heart may find the verbiage offensive, the author reaches an audience that needs to hear his message.

The sermons in the book are some of the most powerful. In reading the book, you have the ability to reread them as opposed to trying to remember what was preached from the pulpit on Sunday. Anyone who reads the book and counts the sex scenes, the curse words or the amount of times someone uses drugs misses out on the message in the book. The author displays these sins before he leads up to his sermon entitled "Behind the Broken Cross".

I encourage everyone to read the book with the anticipation of understanding that these topics are real. I applaud the author for having the courage to take this path. As you read and the language becomes too strong, do as you would a television show; close one eye until you get past that part. Your reward will come as you read the sermons and understand the message.

My opinion of the book is this — The title of the book was very deceiving to me had I known the book was that explicit I don't think I would have ever read it … However I did have a favorite character in the book which was Cle … (even though he had his flaws and ways). It was the fact that when he decided to give up his addiction, he not ONLY saw everyone else’s flaws, he recognized his own as well … If the book had less foul language and sexual content in it MAYBE just MAYBE it would have been an OK book … if I had to rate it between 1–10; with # 1 being bad and #10 being the greatest I would give it a #2 … That's my opinion. So my Pro was the character Cle and my Cons were everything else I listed above …
Marge

Ditto. CON- way too many blow jobs for me. PRO- Cle was hilarious. I love a book that could make me laugh.

Conrad, Thank you once again for your support for the Sistas Turning Pages. The only thing I have to say about the book is “IT’S ABOUT TIME, SOMEONE REVEALS WHAT ACTUALLY GOES ON IN CHURCHES”, Thank you for such a wonderful series; I am looking forward to reading more of your wonderful work. I enjoyed the sermons; it actually had me thinking about what I need to do/not do in order to walk that path for the Lord.
Thanks again, Felicia

Mr. Conrad is for real!!!!!!! and gifted with bringing it home in his books. I truly enjoyed being with him and getting to know him even better. Tell him I will continue to pray for him and his work.

Hey Rad,

Yes, I did say, "RAD" cause I got it like that. It's Roxanne, AKA Roxie. I just want you to know that you are wrooonnnggg for this, Behind the Broken Cross is soooo good, a sista didn't go to sleep until 3 AM this morning laughing from reading your book. Actually, I didn't read the back of the book to actually know what the book was about. Once I started reading the book and in chapter two I realized that the characters were my peeps from previous books, it was on. When Rad was mentioned, I knew I would be reading for awhile. However, my favorite character so far is Monica. She is off the hook.

Thanks for writing such a great book.
Roxanne

Part I: I read Conrad’s book over the weekend and WOW! That is the short version of how I can sum it all up. It is deep and mind boggling. I hope everyone has had the chance to read the book. If not please read it before the meeting. I am looking forward to this being a very interactive discussion. Don’t spare Conrad because I am NOT going to. As I was reading the book I had to get a pencil and write my comments in the margins while they were fresh on my mind. I have had nightmares and this book has been on my mind ever since I read it. Once you have read the book, please take some time to write out your thoughts and questions for Conrad. I think we are going to see nine different views about the book.

Part II: Ok Conrad, let me tell you that you grabbed me and held my attention from the first word to the last word. Now you know I am disappointed with the ending, so I truly hope you are working on the next sequel. If not … I don't know. I had a nightmare while reading this book. (Behind The Broken Cross) I dreamed Christ was on the cross and fell off! I was scared too while reading this book. I felt I was doing something so wrong that the pages were going to burst into flames, especially while reading the wickedness of the spiritual leaders.

I found the book to be an interesting book. It definitely added an interesting twist as the sequel to the last books. The depth of the corruption exposed at Reverend Hayes’ church was quite disturbing. For him to believe he was God … that man was crazy! And the power that Rad/Rene had over people was really something. I have always wondered where that power came from ... his money, because he was a successful businessman, were people scared of his craziness/boldness/thugness or what? It may have come from a combination of these things. I was happy that the book "seemed" to have a sane person (Gregory Hill). The one critique in my opinion is I found the book to be too sexually explicit for me. Conrad, you are a talented author and I have really enjoyed reading your books. I look forward to reading more.
Michele Strong

After reading your book again and again, I still say WOW. Each of the characters have their own unique personality that make the story work. Each of them have their own purpose that teaches the reader a bit about real life.

We are all looking for the resurgence of Reverend Bobby "Showtime" Hayes. I know that he has that star quality to carry his own book.

I look forward to your next project and where your mind takes the characters. Thanks again for sharing yourself with the Sistas and remember we will always show you love.
